    Overview: The Cook Island archipelago nation comprises of 15 islands, stretching for nearly 2 million square kilometres (about the size of India), with nearly 70% of the 15,000 population living on the largest island of Rarotonga.

The Cook Islands’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), however, covers 1,800,000 square kilometres (690,000 sq mi) of ocean.[5]

    The Cook Islands’ defence and foreign affairs are the responsibility of New Zealand, but they are exercised in consultation with the Cook Islands. In recent times, the Cook Islands have adopted an increasingly independent foreign policy.
